Dramatic Celebration

Just recently I realized that I had reached the 100 subscriber mark on YouTube.  It’s pretty impressive to me, and I wanted to do something special for those who have been tuning in.  I decided that I would do a video tutorial with a more dramatic look.  Since I’m still working on the whole live tutorial thing, I’m still editing the video (it’s so long!), but I did take some photos and thought I’d share those.

This past weekend I was at the Sephora in Yorkdale and saw that they had the By Lauren Luke kits in stock!  To say I was excited would have been an understatement, and the fact that they were packaged with an extra gloss just sealed the deal for me.  It was difficult to pick just one (for now), but I decided on My Vintage Glams because I felt the colour combination was fun and fresh.  This is my first time really playing with it, but I’m pretty happy with the results.  Especially the lips, they came out quite a bit brighter than I imagined.

Colour Wheel

In the excitement of IMATS, I forgot about something I did a week or two ago.

I wanted to play with colour and instead of just picking some colours, I dug out my colour wheel. It’s just a small one that I picked up at Michaels, and it is a few layers deep with cutouts showing colour combinations based on colour theory.

A color wheel (also referred to as a color circle) is a visual representation of colors arranged according to their chromatic relationship. Begin a color wheel by positioning primary hues equidistant from one another, then create a bridge between primaries using secondary and tertiary colors.

I decided to attempt a triad. I’m not really sure how I feel about the end result, but I definitely had fun trying to figure out how I might make it work. The core colours used were three eye shadows from MAC; Red Brick, Violet Trance and Lime. Red Brick and Lime are both Pro items, and Violet Trance is limited edition (recently released with the Makeup Art Cosmetics collection).

In terms of self evaluation:

• the inner highlight could have been blended more thoroughly
• sharper definition in the crease
• BROWWWWWWWWWWWS!   they have since been cleaned up, lol

Blue Flame

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that my laptop suffered a hard drive loss.  Between the lead up to the drive failure plus the actual repair time, there were a few looks I wanted to share but never got around to posting.  While I actually had the photos uploaded to the site, the file that I kept the product lists in evaporated with the data loss.. so I won’t be able to provide the usual in depth listing.

The joys of technology fails.  We won’t talk about the fact that I had my own fail, for not backing things up sooner.  I am in the process of trying to retrieve some of that data, but only time will tell.. but enough geek speak, let’s keep it moving right along.

Here are three looks that span the course of the past month or two:  a blue smokey eye, a bright lip and a warm autumn flavour.

Blue Flame
All I definitively remember about this look, is the fact that I used two of MAC’s mineralized eye shadows: Blue Flame and Sea & Sky. When in doubt of what to call a look, remember that functional names are so useful. LOL

I may have used 2N or Blankety on the lips.. but I’m not sure.

Ravishing

Ravishing
Again, the functional names have been useful. I used Ravishing lipstick, and it may have been on it’s own.. or I may have paired it with Queen Bee or Ola Mango lip glass.  This is probably one of my favourite lip colours. I adore peach/coral lips and I have quite a few options, but Ravishing is the best one so far.  The texture is nice too, I may have to B2M for some more creamsheen lipsticks.

I believe the eyes had Time & Space on the lid, with Rule in the crease.  More than likely I used Blanc Type to highlight, with a black gel liner and of course, Feline on the waterline.

On the cheeks I think it was Nuance with either Otherworldly or Eversun.

This look was actually inspired by a fellow makeup junkie; chocobon. When I mentioned that I finally picked up Ravishing, she asked to see what it looked like on the lips. Granted, I’m remarkably late.. but here’s your lip swatches chocobon. :]

Fallen Leaves

This is what I wore to my demo interview. I wanted something bright that wasn’t over the top, but still seasonally appropriate without being a slave to the current trends.  I think it may have also had something to do with not being quite ready to let go of that late summer bronze.

On the eyes I was wearing Evening Aura, Fab & Flashy, Sunsplosion, A Little Folie and Handwritten eye shadows.  I used Obviously Orange techakohl liner as a base.  I was very pleasantly surprised, the pencil gave a very smooth finish all over the lid, which held on to the colour all day.  I believe I used Handwritten as a liner for both top and bottom lashes as well.

I believe the cheeks were a combination of Nuance to highlight, Devil as blush and Emote as the contour.

Frenzy lipstick with Beaux lustreglasss were paired up on the lips.  I love this lip combination, Frenzy is that perfect bronze lip against my skin tone.  Beaux is just enough to add some extra dimension without losing the metallic sheen of Frenzy.

Dazzleglass Swatches

For the past month or so, I’ve been thinking about doing a visual breakdown of my collection. There are two main reasons behind this. One, to have a quick visual of what I already have.. so those new collections can’t sneak up on me. Two, to share what colours I have and how I make them work for me.. so others might find items of interest.
