Essence in Canada
A few weeks ago I attended a fabulous event in Toronto that was celebrating the launch of a European cosmetics line in Canada; essence.Essence Cosmetics is out of Germany, by way of Frankfurt. While new to Canada, essence can be found in 55 countries world wide and is the #1 value cosmetic brand in the world. Value indeed! I was quite impressed to discover that the current range in Canada is extremely reasonable. Products start at $1.49 and max out at $4.99. That’s so refreshing to see, especially with many of the major brands increasing their prices lately.
The event was hosted at the Hotel Ocho lounge; a very chic venue and the event decor and styling by was exquisite. I was greeted by the lovely Rachel, who had my coat taken care of, escorted me to the bar and then took me on a tour of the loft all the while giving me plenty of great information on the brand as well as showing off the many product displays. I definitely felt very VIP, especially since that transitioned into a manicure provided by the lovely Melissa from Tips Nail Bar. There were a number of nail techs and makeup artists on hand to polish up the guests.

There were plenty of makeup to preview; from the in-store displays and (past) limited edition collections along with trays of samples being brought around as cosmetic hors d’oeuvres. Plenty of edible goodies were offered as well; savoury pint sized corndogs, poutine and sliders and of course, the sweet cakepops, candy apples and cotton candy (to name just a few).

After having plenty of time to mingle and explore the products, we heard from essence. Some company history as well as the finer points of what’s made them so popular. This was then followed up by a few words from the director of exclusive brands at Shoppers Drug Mart. Often times when it comes to these ‘speeches’ they can sound quite rehearsed. This was something different because I really found myself getting a feel for the passion these people have for this brand.
Afterwards we were free to continue to mingle, . which of course meant more chatting, browsing and of course photo opportunities! Admittedly, I was initially a little intimidated by the media presence. There were some film crews as well as a number of photographers, plus the cameras and phones of the attendees. It was definitely a new and elevated experience for me, but thoroughly enjoyable all in all.

Essence was kind enough to provide gift bags for us as well, which was very much appreciated. Considered that we could pick a few items from the displays, the bags were a nice added touch. Since the event, I’ve picked up a few more products from the line which will round out the giveaway goodies for one lucky reader. Be sure to stay tuned for the giveaway post for your chance to enter!

I’ve tried lipgloss, eyeshadow, bronzer, blush and eyeshadow brushes from essence and I have been quite pleased. I tried it after I’d seen Namaisa on YT using it. Not bad at all.
I’d heard about it on YouTube as well, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
