Haul: Estee Lauder Illuminating Powder Gelee
The Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelées are kind of a big deal in the world of face products. I liken them to the Mineralize Skin Finish done by MAC, but these have an air of refinement about them.
These are packed with more sheen than sparkle and with intense pigmentation. A little seems to go a very long way.
I noticed Topaz Chameleon while browsing my local cosmetics department a few months ago and was instantly smitten. So of course it’s no surprise that when Shimmering Sands debuted, I was all over it.
Of the two, I think Shimmering Sands will be the more popular shade. The bold copper tones of Topaz Chameleon make it a bit harder to wear, but for those with deeper skin or with a love for that summer glow – it’s perfect.
- Topaz Chameleon (Pure Color Topaz / Spring 2012)
- Shimmering Sands (Bronze Goddess Capri / Summer 2012)
- Variations on warm; golden copper vs. pinked bronze
Much to my dismay, I missed out on the first installation of this product. Modern Mercury launched in the fall of last year as part of a very limited and oddly enough, a very hushed collection. Like most super limited products it was an instant hit and of course, near impossible to find after the fact.
Have you tried any of the Illuminating Powder Gelées?

No I actually haven’t heard of these…and I want to know more about them. They look INTENSE….which color do you think would be suitable for me?

LOL ..you need to stop by the Lancome counter the next time you’re at the Bay then. ;] They are very pigmented, I think you could control that with a duo-fibre stripling brush though. I think the Shimmering Sands would suit you better because Topaz Chameleon might pull too brassy (though it would look stunning with your eyes).
I swatched shimmering sands and can’t make up my mind about it. It would be waaaaay too dark on my pale skin for a bronzer but with a tan it could make an excellent blush. Hmmm

Swatching gives massive colour payoff (and I don’t think the applicators are particularly practical) but using a fluffy brush would give you much better control. I think you could absolutely rock Shimmering Sands.
these are gorgeous! i saw and tried one on in the store and i loved it! =)

Topaz Chameleon is GORGEOUS as a higlighter on darker skins. I’m an NW50 and I LOVE this. Word of warning though…if you’re traveling with it, be VERY careful it’s very delicate.
