The Experience ~ This is the first of a few products that I will be reviewing that were sent to me by the Canadian cosmetics company, Annabelle. I’ve been familiar with the brand for years, but I was never drawn to the blushes. Admittedly when I received the blush I was skeptical, since in the past I’ve found that drugstore blushes just aren’t pigmented enough for me. This little pot of blush surprised me in a really big way.

Voodoo Queen

So after many, many years where I didn’t do much for Halloween.. I finally did something. I was invited out with friends, who were hitting up not only a house party, but street festivities. Since it’d been a while, I figured I should probably do something interesting costume wise.

Naturally, with the numerous tutorials and inspiration to be found on YouTube, that’s where I headed. The creativity and skill level of some of the people on there is absolutely fantastic. I consider it something separate from your day to day makeup, this is a completely different level of makeup artistry.  With inspiration coming heavily from Petrilude’s Witch Doctor Makeup Tutorial. The actual costume itself was inspired by a fusion of New Orleans Voodoo Queen, Tribalist and Witch Doctor themes. While we were out, a woman asked me if I was Tia Dalma/Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean, which I guess could work too. ;]

The makeup was pretty simple:

• concealer mixed with white greasepaint
• black gel liner
• black kohl liner
• brown eye liner
• black & brown eye shadow
• invisibile set powder
• feathered lashes
• black lipstick & gloss

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara / Carbon Black
I’ve heard people talk about Carbon Black for a long time, but I just never got around to it. It was sitting patiently in my mascara box until I finally picked it up about a month ago. I’ve been using it pretty much every time I do my make-up, as I really like the intensity of the black as well as the final finish.

Early this week I found out that the reason that my laptop was acting strange was because the hard drive was failing. Unfortunately I lost everything, including all my beauty related photos and photo templates. I’m hoping that at some point in the near future I may be able to recover some if not all of the content, but until then I’m working from scratch so please bear with me.

My laptop has been acting up for the past week or so, which is why I haven’t been terribly active around my usual beauty haunts. I’m going to try to crank out some new posts within the next few days, but until I get that lovely piece of electronics sorted, I won’t be around with my usual frequency.

Annabelle Ultimate Makeup Junkie

I was inspired by Nicole of Natural Endless Beauty to enter Annabelle’s Ultimate Makeup Junkie contest. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do, then I changed my mind and wasn’t going to enter.. and then I found my inspiration and this is what I came up with.

When I checked out the Annabelle website this morning, I saw that I’d made it as one of the 20 semi-finalists! Talk about a great start to the week.
