Five Favourites: May 2011
May was a month where I felt I really kept things relatively simple. I wouldn’t call it boring, but there was a definite focus on basics; with bronzer, liner, mascara & nude gloss.
If you’d like a full or quick review of any of these product, just let me know in the comments.
Annabelle Mineral Powder Bronzer in Terra
Bronzer isn’t something that I use year round, and it’s the one section of my makeup collection that is sparse. Terra fits the bill perfectly. It’s warm enough without being orange, and the finish has a gorgeous sheen that gives a lovely glow without relying on glitter.
suggested retail price of $10.50 CAD (@ Rexall, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Zellers)
Korres Provitamin B5 and Rice Bran Mascara in Black
I came across this accidently as it was packaged with yet another Korres set. I picked up the set to try out the shadows, and here I am loving the mascara. The formula is really light and it’s a drier mascara, so much so that at first I thought it had dried out. It’s been my go-to daytime mascara, because it defines and lengthens my lashes without packing too much volume. Interestingly enough, it builds nicely for a more dramatic look too.

MAC Lipglass in Viva Glam Gaga 2
Lipglass is a hit or miss product for me. I’ve got some that I love and some that I struggle with, but this is definitely a hit. It’s the perfect nude gloss, whether it’s paired with a liner or layered over a lipstick. It’s lighter and less peachy than both Revealing & Entice, while being a touch darker and more brown than Boy Bait. This gloss is a bit sticky, but it helps with their longevity.

Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Bulletproof
This eye shadow was in the spotlight recently, and it’s definitely become a staple item. I’ve been using it as an alternative to my beloved cream liners, and it’s fabulous. It’s very matte, very pigmented and very black. Interestingly enough, I haven’t used it much as an actual eye shadow, but it’s my new favourite way to define my lash line quickly and easily.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion
As part of the 15th anniversary set from Urban Decay, this liner is a bit harder to get a hold of.. especially if you don’t want the other pencils. That said, it’s glorious. It’s a very dense, very matte, very black liner. The intensity of the black reminds me of Feline kohl power pencil from MAC, but without the smudging you’d expect with a kohl. It wears evenly on the water line and does very well on the upper and lower lids. For someone who thinks these pencils are generally overpriced (why I bought the set instead), I’d repurchase this one.. many times over.
$98 CAD for the set (@ Shoppers Drug Mart)

Thanks!
Sugarpill pressed shadows are fantastic. :]
The Sugarpill eyeshadow is definitely standing out! I love to use eyeshadows to tight line the lash line ESPECIALLY for my clients who are blinkers because its quick, easy and precision isnt a must! Also its great for bridal clients too who want a very natural look so a smoke/smudged out eyeliner gives a nice amount of density at the root of the lashes without being overkill, making them stand out more!
Definitely! I started using it more regularly on others as well, and it’s saved me a lot of time with people who want more subtle definition.
