Hunting Down FitMe! Foundation [Maybelline]

The Maybelline FitMe! foundation has been buzzing around the beauty community lately, and when I first saw it in stores I was excited.  I’m always on the lookout for that perfect drugstore foundation, for days when I don’t feel like breaking out my Make Up For Ever HD.

Swatches: 310-325

Immediately I was frustrated with the lack of colours.  The first time I saw the display, there were only nine shades with three colours per tier (light, medium & dark).  I always have a hard time finding a match, but with only nine shades to choose from I knew it’d be tough going.

For reference:

310 – Sun Beige (yellow base)
315 – Soft Honey (pink base)
320 - Honey Beige (yellow base)
325 – Cream Beige (pink base)

Maybelline’s foundations have never been a hit for me in the past, as I found they tended to run very pink with a peculiar ashy undertone in the darker range.

I picked up 320 first, which ended up being quite yellow – even though when I’ve used Honey Beige in the past, it was pink toned.  So I went back for 325, thinking I’d mix them.  These two colours are significantly deeper than they appear in the bottle.  I think they’re probably deeper than my summer shades too, which was surprising since I’d heard many WOC disappointed at the depth of colour available.  It’s definitely worth a try, those bottles are deceiving!

At this point I was annoyed and decided to put them aside for a bit.  Recently though, I saw a display in Wal-Mart that showcased an additional two shades per tier, so naturally I took a look.  Determined to make a match, I picked up 310 & 315 (they also had 350) which look far too light in the bottle – but actually work very well.  In fact, 310 works well on it’s own but I do prefer it mixed with a bit of 315 for added depth.

There are in fact 18 shades, which is double the amount I originally saw. If you initially thought you wouldn’t be able to find your shade, have another go (if you can find a full display). I only saw the deepest shade 355, when I was in Niagara Falls. Not sure why the range coverage is so spotty, demographics perhaps? Though before you go through the hassle, I’d definitely recommend reading up on reviews.

I will have one posted in the next few weeks, but I really wanted to share my experiences trying to get a hold of this foundation. It may not be L’Oreal, but it better be worth it! ;]

  1. I am so glad that you posted this….I noticed that Canada tends to receive limited collections of almost EVERYTHING makeup! It’s so frustrating to not have a full collection available-especially in terms of shades of foundation!

I am wondering if these companies either aren’t aware the women in Canada have the same ‘beauty wants/needs’ as everyone else? I feel neglected!

    • Hi Meredith, thanks for stopping by. :]

I feel like Canada receives limited collections of everything across the board. It never fails to amaze me just how much more variety there is available in the US.

  2. Great review! I picked the concealer not too long ago and found it a bit too sheer. Can’t wait to see what you finally end up with.

  3. see this is why i don’t buy drugstore founations, it’s too stressful to find a colour match and I’m too impatient :D I’m still curious about this foundation though, maybe coz i’m a foundation addict :/ I saw a girl in YT saying 125 was a good match for NW25, but I guess i gtta test myself

  4. I don’t try many foundations, once I have one that matches my skin tone I stick with it (so I’ve been a Mary Kay girl for a long time). That being said, I tried the Fit Me foundation and I though it matched perfectly – but I’m sticking with my Mary Kay because I feel like it has more staying power.

I was converted to the Fit Me pressed powder and blush though, those are awesome!

    • I’m enjoying the powder as well, though I found the shades on those were quirky too. I’m so envious you’ve found your perfect foundation though. ;]

  5. I want to try the new Fit Me foundation because Maybelline Pure Makeup was my favorite foundation before they discontinued it. It looks perfect on me:( I really hope the Fit Me stuff is the same, or better.

My match is 320. I guess I’ve been pretty lucky with Maybelline foundations as for the most part, I’m usually able to find something that matches. I’m really impressed with the coverage that it gives and with how light it feels. It’s definitely my foundation of choice for those no-makeup makeup days.

    • The coverage is surprisingly good, given how light the formula is. I’m glad you could find a match. :]

  7. Hey T!
I agree the selection was rather limited. I ended up purchasing 320 and 230 to mix together but I still think its missing a little something so im going back for the 315 and or 310 i think to get the perfect match.

    • Even the beauty advisor had trouble matching colours. When I returned 325 she was surprised that someone would have recommended it because she felt it was too light! LOL ..she looked shocked when I told her it that it was in fact several shades too dark.

Thank you for this post. I have seen the displays but i wasn’t pressed to really give it a try. your swatches help a lot.

  9. I love this foundation. I am not an everyday foundation wearer so this really works for me. My Shade is 320 and I have found that it blends beautifully with my skin!
