Summer Staples

Often when I read about summer beauty tips, the first thing that’s mentioned is sunscreen. To me, sunscreen isn’t a seasonal product – I want to protect my skin all year around. It’s a given that sunscreen is a part of my routine, but there are a few things I feel work well in the heat & humidity. While I do prescribe to the less is more in the summer, there are times when you might feel like glamming it up – so I thought to share some of my summer staples.

Summer time staples to beat the heat!

Skin
Less is more when it comes to foundation in heat. Reach for a tinted moisturizer or a lightweight foundation to keep from a major meltdown. Spot treat with concealer rather than slathering on a ton of foundation.

If you get oily, carry blot film to cut the oil on your skin. This is particularly important if you’re touching up with a powder. Remove the oil first with the film, then powder; otherwise you’ll discover that powder and oil can lead to a cakey mess.

Eyes
Keep the eyes simple, but defined with some long-wearing liquid liner and mascara. Whether you opt for subtle or dramatic, remember that regular liner and mascara can leave you with raccoon eyes in a hot minute.

If the thought of mascara running makes you uncomfortable, try a natural lash instead.  Just be sure your lash glue is waterproof and you’re good to go!

A bit of clear mascara can help keep your brows in place, without worrying about the colour fading or smearing off.

Cheeks
Bronzer or a blush with gold or orange tones looks fabulous in the summer. It’s more subtle than blush, but can give that bit of colour and add some glow and shape to the face.

Lips
A stain is a great way to keep colour on your lips for the long haul. A lip balm will give you moisture and some soft shine.

  1. Hiya. I’m not one who uses bronzer but interestingly enough, I have been looking into why use it, when, how. So this is spot on for me. And the clear mascara tip, too.
    Thanks, Tamara!

  2. My favorite lip stain is Tarte lip stain in “Amused.” It’s moisturizing and very buildable.

    • I’ve yet to try Tarte’s stains.. but they’ve been on my radar for a while.
